Accounts – On-Premise Domain Account Management

Goal: Instruct on how to create and manage Microsoft Active Directory accounts. Requires login to domain controller with an account that has administrative privileges.

Access a domain controller
1. Remote access using Splashtop to A.Servers / MTX
2. RDP to 10.10.20.10 (hhh-nl-hv1.hhh.net) using Windows Remote Desktop Connection
  1. Open VM interface within Hyper-V Manager

Create new account

<Right click similar account> / Copy OR <right click container> / New / User
1. Firstname: legal name
2. Lastname: legal last name
3. Full name: can be changed if asked to do so
4. Username: <6 first letters of lastname><first letter of firstname> ie. dittmar
5. Password: best to let user set their password or offer a safe but intuitive password
  1. Set to ‘Password never expires’ under Account
6. Set groups (Member Of)
7. Set profile location in Profile (if required)
  1. Connect: H:
  2. To: \\fileserver\dat_<username>$ ie \\fileserver\date_dittmar$
8. Optional: Organization data

Reset password

Right click account / Reset Password
1. Password: best to let user set their password or offer a safe but intuitive password

Unlock account

Right click account / Properties
